good enough to eat...

Cookie Couture started out one morning in 2006 with a single tray of bright pink, heart-shaped gingerbreads, made by founder Nadine Ingram for her neighbourhood café.

Inspired by the popularity of these simple hearts, and by a love of baking for others, Nadine took to the kitchen to create a range of exquisitely iced cookies themed around the times when people come together – baby showers, birthdays, weddings, and other special occasions.

Cookie Couture uses only the finest natural ingredients to create a soft, perfectly spiced gingerbread that is balanced with the delicate crunch of beautifully applied icing.

From baby prams to handbags, Cookie Couture’s gorgeous handcrafted creations have added a whimsical touch to many celebrations since the morning of the bright pink hearts. See the range online.

to be or not to be.....

Rosebarnett is a creative partnership between friends Cath Rose and Sarah Barnett. It’s a business that exists around the edges – Cath is a full-time Art Teacher and Sarah is a full-time mum of three.

Where possible the girls use recycled and reclaimed materials testing how they appear in a new context. They have a passion for beautiful, quirky things and love to create using paper, wood, felt and some fabulous early plastics like Bakelite and Lucite.

The cufflinks are made from a vintage game of scrabble cubes. Priced at $25; available at Rosebarnetts madeit store.

circle this....

Penny Butterworth is a Sydney based ceramicist who creates desirable pieces of wearable art. She has always been fascinated with the patterns and texture in life and art and expresses this through her very tactile sculptured pieces that feel and look beautiful to wear.

The black and white ceramics on black cord or velvet are simple, unique, elegant and understated. Each circle in 'Circles' is hand formed from clay and was created as "(Penny) was experimenting with different sized and shaped discs and suddenly realised how good they all looked together."
Each version of 'circles' is uniquely and carefully constructed in an asymmetric fashion that balances itself out as it takes shape. It is a stunning piece, especially worn long against black.

This 10 disc piece sells for $200 tand is available at PennyButterworth.

dear diary.....

Entwined in delicate filigree this joyous bird is ready to guard your penned secrets.

Julia from Red Otter has been writing letters and entrusting her inner most thoughts to journals since school. "I was always fascinated by characters in books who would take out their dip pens and peacock colored ink and scratch out an entry or an epistle" During a financial pinch a few years back she decided to create her own journal, just to have some space to spill her thoughts. Thus the joy of journal making was birthed!

The beautiful Nightingale design and many others are available through Red Otter's Etsy Store.

The people's choice....

The bar keeps raising for The Magnolia Square Visual Merchandising Award. At Tiny and Small the judging was left to the retailers who voted Fudge by Rich as their fav. Close behind was the gorgeous stand of Little Bird Photography, the bright delights of Red Wagon and the whimsical display at Millliemelisse.

Being described in The Age Epicure as “silky-smooth confection” Fudge by Rich prides themselves on producing both a beautifully ‘smooth’ and beautifully packaged product.

They believe in making deliciously rich fudge with only the best quality raw ingredients resulting in a product, full of genuine flavour and natural colour.

With flavours such as Creamy Kahlua, Vanilla Bean, Macadamia and Rocky Road, you would be forgiven for thinking the retailers may have voted with their taste buds!

below the belt....

The Cut Cloth is the culmination of a lifelong love of good design and all things beautiful for its three founders Diana, Amanda and Janet. Their diverse backgrounds and skills seemed a perfect match and so the cut cloth was born:

The girls are unified by their love of exquisite fabrics, with an eye for detail and a commitment to quality rarely seen in these mass-produced times. At The Cut Cloth it's all about the cloth! The homewares and accessories showcase fabrics with bold organic and geometric prints - with a primary emphasis on the use of strong colour.

Our pick are these stylish belts made from 100% heavy weight cotton fabric and an Italian nickel belt. Belts retail for $65.
