wrapped up....

I have always lived by the mantra that 'it is what's on the inside that counts'...unless of course we are talking gifts. A beautifully wrapped gift says so here are some creative ways to tackle the task.....

Vintage thread on white..simple and divine. Original 1970's limited edition colourful thread available at Lox and Savvy .

Love this DIY option from Milco found via the gorgeous LMNOP blog...just don't leave this one to Christmas Eve!

Subtle blue and green colour schemes and beautiful paper detail from Martha Stewart...and don't despair, website offers down loadable step by step instructions!

Its no secret that we are big fans of the humble doily these caught my eye. Found on the newly discovered and very cute Brisbane blog..A Small Bite of the Mondo Cherry.

true loves....

We have had some great responses to our Bright Star are some 'true loves' from our winners.....

- stamping cards on handmade paper with 6 year old son
- cutting up green tomatoes for chutney
- reading 'There's always room for a little one' to my baby
- daily does of blog reading
- period dramas with intriguing story lines
- Sundays
- jumping in puddles
and this one because it's a little bit cheeky; "I have 2 loves: my husband (who is not rich or dark) and my chocolate (that is rich and dark). Both are sweet and satisfying!"

My love today....Jane Campions production scrapbook for the movie Bright Star full of hand drawn sketches, scenes and art directors photography....take a stroll through here.

2 degrees of fun.....

Day one of the school holidays here and the kids are already mumbling on about having nothing to do.

It was very timely then that I received a lovely email from Anne at Luce Handmade telling me all about her gorgeous new project. TwoDegrees will be the umbrella in which many unique, Australian, hand crafted projects will be launched.

The first being natural rubber stamp sets featuring local Australian landscapes and made from natural vulcanised red rubber. Each is mounted on reclaimed Tasmanian Celery Top pine including foam cushioning so are perfectly safe for little hands and mouths should they make their way there! In the typical style of Anne Mason, the stamp sets are superbly packaged in a handmade bag made from organic materials and finished with a divine letterpress tag.

Purchase here and get the kids stamping.

show time...on us

Bright Star - a portrait of love and loss. London 1818: a secret love affair begins between 23 year old English poet, John Keats, and the girl next door, Fanny Brawne; an outspoken fashion student.

This unlikely pair started at odds; he thinking her a stylish minx, she unimpressed by literature in general.

It was the illness of Keat's younger brother that drew them together. Keats was touched by Fanny's efforts to help and agreed to teach her poetry.

By the time Fanny's alarmed mother and Keats's best friend Brown realised their attachment, the relationship had an unstoppable momentum. Intensely and hopelessly absorbed in each other, the young lovers were swept into powerful new sensations, "I have the feeling as if were dissolving", Keats wrote to her. Together the rode a wave of romantic obsessions that deepened as their troubles mounted. Only Keat's illness proved insurmountable.

Magnolia Square along with our good friends Hopscotch films have 10 double passes to Bright Star starring Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish to give away...just be one of the first ten to email us to tell us who or what you love. Easy!

mini city.....

We do endeavour to show our readers things that are both beautiful and accessible...however these were just too adorable not to feature.

Kast van een Huis is a dutch company, translating loosely to mean ' a barn of a house'. These cityscape closets are standouts in the collection; functioning as storage as well as a unique room divider when a few are placed in a row. The design is based on the canalhouses, famous in Amsterdam..and we just love them!

They are not yet available in Australia, but it is always nice to dream......

new website...

Whilst on the topic of beautiful websites, we must also mention that another one of our favorites, Ella Sanders has recently launched her glossy new website.

Ella Sanders uses natural bamboo fibres and 100% pure woolmark approved yarns in a collection of scarves, berets, clothing and home wares for men, women and children. The quality is superb and attention to detail obvious.

Read more about Ella Sanders here and look out for the range at Magnolia Square event in 2010!

memories of woodlands...

Madly skouting around Etsy this morning looking for last minute, non-plastic gifts that will still make it in the Christmas post, I found this.

A very cute, eco friendly take on the classic game of memory. Loving the woodland creature images, all printed in non-toxic, water resistant ink and the handy cotton storage bag.

french for fabric...

There is only one day left to hit the shops Magnolia Square style. There are over 40 gorgeous reasons to pop in for a look...from children's fashion to unique art and beautiful homewares, all wrapped in Magnolia Square goodness.

Rougestore is one of the many new retailers to join our growing broad this year and we are loving their range of french fabrics.

The uniqueness comes from their 7 stripes representing the 7 provinces of the Basque Region: 3 French provinces and 4 Spanish ones. The palette of colors is inspired from the strong regional tones which associate thin and wide stripes, the genuine signature of Basque fabrics.

Basque linen enjoys an unprecedented reputation: elegantly hard wearing and of high quality. Bringing together tradition, style and innovation, today Artiga is creating designs to enliven your interiors and your everyday life with accessories well matched to the Australian coastal lifestyle.

Tommorrow is your last chance to visit Magnolia Square for the year so we look forward to meeting you there between 10am-4pm

for all that is bright in Brighton....

What an amazing year we have had. Our launch into Sydney was a resounding success and our continued growth in Melbourne has been very exciting. The year isn't quite over though and we plan to end it on a high with our last fair for the year at Brighton Town Hall. Starting tomorrow and running through until Saturday, our grand finale will not disappoint.

Be sure to visit Cloth Poppy for a beautiful range of darling fashion for little girls and pretty things for the home. Designer Leesa learnt to sew early on and was inspired by her daughter to create gorgeous things that 'swish and swirl'

"A passion for fabrics and pretty dresses passed down three generations inspired me to create Cloth Poppy" Says Leesa.

Each garment is hand made in Melbourne using carefully selected vintage and new fabrics sourced from around the globe.

See you in Brighton. Click here for times.
